Figure out how you budget. As much as you would like a really nice house, you need to make a budget so that you don’t overspend on the house. Knowing what you can afford will help you get the best house at a price you can afford without struggling. Apart from the rent there are other fees that you need to pay such as the security deposit, electricity, water, internet, trash bills and a pet fee if you have one.
Start your search as soon as possible. When the idea of moving to Off campus comes to you and you decide that you want it, you should start looking for one immediately. Getting a good house is harder than it seems since the rental market is very competitive so you should start your search early if you want to get the best deals.
Know your options. You can do your research online to find out which off campus houses are available near you so that you can know what to choose from. You can even arrange a meeting with a real estate agent to check out the different houses and find out which one has what you want and is within your budget. Another option is going with some of the people who have agreed to be your roommates and decide on the best one together.
Consider the commute. You need to consider things like will you be able to walk to class or the library and arrive on time or is the distance from the house too long and you have to drive there. The walking distance is the best option since you save on gas. Another thing to consider is the distance to the nearest shopping center and food place of which both need to be close.
Safety first. You need to ensure that the house is safe for you and your roommates before choosing it. Are the locks secure or can they be easily picked. Is the neighborhood safe or dangerous. Ask your landlord these questions before you choose the house.
